Holy mother of all things good, grab your britches kids we’re going for a RIDE!

So, I had my post-it in hand and headed out for a regular ole trip to my favorite store Sprouts.   It started out as any ordinary trip would….but while I was there I struck GOLD!!   My lord I feel like I’ve won the Lotto!!!   First let me show you my haul, then I’ll break it down.

Jackpot!!

Behind door #1 we have Kambucha

and so it goes,  I’m late getting on this bandwagon, but now that I am WHOA BABY!!  After getting some advice on flavors and brands from Shari I went with the Divine Grape and was NOT dissapointed!!   I had purchased a bottle of this stuff about 3 years ago, long before I ever heard about it.  I saw some girl in Whole Foods putting about 10 of them in her cart, she looked fit and healthy and I figured she must be on to something so I bought a couple.  When I got in the car I cracked it open and about gagged over the smell!  Needless to say I didn’t drink it.   So this time I figured I was going to try it, cracked it open,  and chugged.  OMG!!   It is SO good,  the taste is not like the smell (at least with this flavor).    I drank about half the bottle on my way home and then realized it may contain alcohol!!  OOOOOpsie!    Does this mean I was drinking and driving???    God I hope not.  Wont do that again just in case….

may contain trace amounts of alcohol

So why don’t you join the thousands of happy peppy people and get a great big bottle of Vitaveatyvemeanyminimoe. I’ll tell you what you have to do. You have to take a whole tablespoonful after every meal. It’s so tasty too. It’s just like candy.

Behind door #2 we have :

Amazing Grass after seeing it all over the blog world and asking this lovely lady for some advice.  I debated for a while on the flavor.  Original vs Chocolate.   I decided to go with the chocolate because I already have a ton of green stuff that I put into my smoothies and figured I could use this to mix up a treat with either Hemp or Coconut milk and have it for a snack.

Behind door #3,

COCONUT ALERT!!   This my friends is BIG news, especially to my friend LUCY who may need an intervention soon.

After plugging along with my Spectrum brand of coconut oil for about 3 months and not knowing I was missing out on anything…. I tried the Living Foods brand and Holy Coconut Oil, there IS a difference!!!!  I also picked up some fresh dates because I couldn’t remember when I bought the ones I had and apparently there IS also a difference in a fresh date and an old date   (that’s what she said).  I yanked out the pit, slathered on some of my coconut oil (which by the way smells divine!!) and popped it into my mouth… I’m not sure if it was the alcohol in the Kambucha or the date/coconut oil but I dropped to my knees.

Great, just what I needed, another vice.

try it, you won't be sorry!

And finally, door #4

Now….  I know we’re all trying to be healthy and if we lose a pound here or there, what’s the harm right?  But I’m here to tell you that my new religion is MODERATION.  I will preach it till I die.   And for those days when our healthy food and exercise is tipping the scale just a tad too far to the left and we need that somethin’ somethin’ to balance it out….  well don’t say I didn’t warn you.   The following food item may or may not be addictive.

Purely Decadent.... aint no lie!

I cracked this puppy open and got a spoon like I was raised to do…. but honestly,  I just wanted to shove my face in it!!!  This is the creamiest, coconuttiest elixir I have ever tasted in my life.  I mean how is it that I’ve been eating solid foods now for over 44 years and had no idea this existed???   It’s ecstasy on a spoon.

Beware.... and don't say I didn't warn you!!!

It’s creamy coconut ice-cream made with coconut milk and has little flecks of coconut in it….   I have no words.  There were other flavors but I figured I’d stick with the theme of the day.    I’m thinking of adding a Pay-pal button to the blog just to support my new habit.

Other items of lesser interest included some produce, sea salt, steel cut oats and a bag of Sprouts Coconut threads unsweetened coconut…

Well, tonight is The Biggest Loser so you know where I’ll be if you need me….   and if I’m not there, check the freezer!

Happy Boxing Day!!

26 12 2009

Now this is a holiday I can REALLY get into.   What do I love about Boxing Day you ask??  Well, for starters

  • there is NO preparation required.
  • You get to sleep in as late as you want (unless your moving today)
  • you can celebrate it ANY way you want to…

I mean really, the possibilities are endless….   Feel free to Celebrate it any ole way you choose.  It’s like a ‘DIY’ holiday.  Make up the rules as you go.  I personally will celebrate Boxing Day by

  • enjoying no less than 2 cups of coffee, alone in the Peace and Quiet that has taken over my house
  • juice every lick of produce I currently have in my fridge
  • take down the fire hazard Christmas tree
  • clean, clean, clean till my daddy takes the T-bird away
  • take the worlds Best Boy to Best Buy as promised (and since it’s RIGHT across the street from Sprouts I will pop in for a Produce Re-stocking like you’ve never seen before, but DON’T tell him…)
  • and I will most likely end my day with some more juice

Before I actually get started on these festivities I wanted to share some memories of Christmas past….  well, yesterday IS past.

The day started at 4:30 AM.   The kids were up, opening their stockings and seeing what Santa brought them.  The way we do it is that Santa does not wrap the gift he leaves them,  that way they know which one is from Santa and his gift is usually something they love but not the BIG gift.   Inside the stockings are tons of little things like candy, new toothbrushes, hair clips, lip gloss, etc.  basically anything that will fit inside a stocking.  BUT I wrap each individual item with white tissue paper.  Sometimes everything wont fit in the stocking so it gets stacked beside it….   So, in the morning when they get up they will see their stocking and their Santa gift  and they all open their stocking stuff….   I lay in bed listening to them laugh and compare and talk.   It’s an unwritten rule that this time is theirs alone which is ok by me as I am happy to listen to this sibling interaction from my bed.  This is my personal favorite time of the morning….  they think I’m still sleeping but I’m not.

After they have eaten candy (GAWD!) and can’t stand it anymore they will come get me up….   I oooh and ahhhh over what they got from Santa while making my coffee and then we all sit around the tree.   We pass out one present at a time, starting with Makenna (youngest) and ending with me (oldest) as we watch each person open their gift.  We go round and round and round until all the gifts are gone.

So, what did I get???   Well first let me say this…

see these kids???    BEST kids EVER!!!    Just sayin’

These kids outdid themselves this year!!  They got me SO MUCH awesome stuff!!  I am still in awe over the things they got me but the cherry on top was this…

Oh yeah baby….   come to mama!!   See that word “COMPACT”?   Yeah, not so much, this thing is HUGE!!

Pond scum at it's finest!!

carrot, romaine and apple juice!!    Delicious!!

I was a juicing fool yesterday… probably whipped up about 4 batches of juice and loved every drop of it!   As for the kids, they were all very happy with their gifts and everyone had a wonderful day.

On Christmas Eve we took some pictures of the whole family (minus grandma who was in the house)

My dad is in the center (in grey) with Me and my sisters (white and burgundy) and all the grandkids….

I will leave you with this… remember, if you wake up before the sun and find yourself sleeping on the sofa…. people WILL put stuff on you,  this trend is not exclusive to cats.

I’m off to haul all the Christmas containers in from the garage to begin the Boxing Day celebrations…  wish me luck and energy tomorrow my friends, I will be running 10 miles at dawn.    And I’m nervous!   But, I will have some new running gear to use and will try to remember to get some photos so I can post them!  More gifts from the kiddos!!

Enjoy your day!!

xoxo

a sweet day…

25 11 2009

Well today was a relaxing day filled with some shopping (for ingredients), baking, hair cuts and photo ops.

I thought we’d get an early start on the baking this morning but when girlie got up she had a completely different idea.  It seems the cousins were all over at grandma’s and that was where she wanted to be…

at least until they started playing with tennis rackets and there weren’t enough for everybody.  I guess she drew the short stick, was born last or was the only girl… who knows what those boys used to decide she didn’t get one.  All I know is it sent her back home with tear filled eyes…

Good thing mom always has a Plan B!!   How about we go get your hair cut??   Woo Hoo!!  She was in!

Please try to ignore the longish bangs… seems Mom was too engrossed in a magazine when the nice lady tried to trim them and girlie politely said “not the bangs…my mommy trims those”…   I didn’t even notice until we were driving away and asked… she cracks me up!!

Well now that we’ve been spit shined we can head over to Sprouts for some ingredients!

Because Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies is what we have on the agenda for this afternoon.

I don’t understand why we can’t just eat oatmeal cookie dough for breakfast…  I mean it’s got all the ingredients of a good breakfast.  Oats, eggs, butter… ok so there’s some sugar and flour in there but it tastes sooooo good.

Oh happy girl!!

And for all you non meat eaters out there… here’s a little turkey even YOU can enjoy!!  Crochet with love by an elderly customer for my daughter.

Gobble Gobble!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!   May your day be filled with delicious food, enjoyable company and plenty of love, laughter and wine to get you thru the day!!

xoxo, Berni
